How to choose printable media
Compare coating, substrate, finish, dimensions and application conditions when selecting Colibri print media.
Match the material to the whole job
Select print media using the printing method, finished use and installation requirements together. A coating, durability statement or roll size published for one product is not a specification for all materials in that family.
- Describe the finished job: display, sign, wall graphic, roll-up, textile or another application.
- Identify the printer and ink technology, then check the selected media’s stated coating or ink compatibility.
- Check the construction, finish, adhesive and liner where relevant; products with similar names may have different layers.
- Match usable width, roll length and thickness or weight to the machine and finishing requirements.
- Read any storage, installation and service-life conditions in the exact product document. Ask for clarification if the page and PDF differ.
- Confirm the selected product and planned application before ordering. Request a sample or test discussion if evaluation is needed; availability is confirmed by the team.
Details to include in a media enquiry
- Product name or code and required quantity.
- Printer model, ink technology and required roll dimensions.
- Surface or finished application, indoor or outdoor use, and relevant finishing or mounting.
- Required finish and adhesive properties, if applicable.
- Any standard or performance requirement that needs documentary confirmation.
Common questions
Does a material family confirm printer compatibility?
No. Check the exact product’s coating and specification. If several versions or coating systems are mentioned, ask which one applies to the product code being ordered.
What if the description and PDF contain different dimensions?
Do not choose one value by assumption. Send the product name, code and the conflicting references so the team can confirm the applicable specification.
Is an outdoor-use statement a guarantee for every installation?
Do not assume that. Check the stated conditions, print system, finishing and application. Ask for the applicable written product and warranty information for your particular job.
